The Cisco Network Emergency Response Vehicle (NERV) is a command and communications resource for first responders and disaster relief organizations requiring mission-critical networking to communicate in response to a catastrophic event.
Inspired by the need for communication after Hurricane Katrina, Cisco NERV and Tactical Operations is deployed in support of a variety of incidents, including hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, earthquakes, wildfires and man-made disasters.

In May 2008, a 8.0 magnitude devasting earthquake strikes Sichuan Province, China. Cisco responds immediately with an emergency communications infrastructure, volunteers, medicines, and grants of over $2.6M for disaster relief efforts. In July, Connecting Sichuan is formed, a public-private partnership between Cisco and the Sichuan Provincial government to help in long-term rebuilding efforts.
