In May 2008, a 8.0 magnitude devasting earthquake strikes Sichuan Province, China. Cisco responds immediately with an emergency communications infrastructure, volunteers, medicines, and grants of over $2.6M for disaster relief efforts. In July, Connecting Sichuan is formed, a public-private partnership between Cisco and the Sichuan Provincial government to help in long-term rebuilding efforts.
