In 1994, Cisco was awarded full ISO 9001 certification, the first major supplier of multiprotocol internetworking ever to do so. This certification assured our global customer base adherence to the most stringent and comprehensive quality management and assurance. Cisco President and CEO John Morgridge said, "Cisco products are found at the heart of the largest and most sophisticated networks in the world-networks that serve as the backbone for mission-critical applications as well as what is now being referred to as the data superhighway...ISO 9001 certification emphasizes that our total solution is based on quality."

Where a router connected networks, switches allowed for the connection of shared resources, enhancing workgroup productivity by increasing networking performance. The Catalyst is the first new product resulting from the Crescendo acquisition of 1993.

After a soft launch the previous year, multi-media enabled Cisco Information Online (CIO) launches at Networkers 1994. CIO offers up-to-date online self-help and guided assistance including software updates and upgrades, product specifications, training programs and seminar schedules, and publishes a 'known bug list', one of the first to do so, allowing us to tap into the knowledge base of our customers and partners.
