This certification assured our global customer base adherence to the most stringent and comprehensive quality management and assurance. Cisco President and CEO John Morgridge said, "Cisco products are found at the heart of the largest and most sophisticated networks in the world-networks that serve as the backbone for mission-critical applications as well as what is now being referred to as the data superhighway...ISO 9001 certification emphasizes that our total solution is based on quality."

Catalyst Switch is introduced as the first intelligent switch for client/server workgroups with "plug-and-play" installation. Where a router connected networks, switches allowed for the connection of shared resources, enhancing workgroup productivity by increasing networking performance. The Catalyst is the first new product resulting from the Crescendo acquisition of 1993.
